Yarram Primary School

The completed Yarram Primary School redevelopment project for the Department of Education with the opening at the beginning of 2018. The redevelopment consisted of the replacement of the
schools standard Lightweight Timber Construction (LTC) building which contained all the schools permanent classrooms, administration and amenities. The new school facilities included 6 to 8 flexible learning spaces, a resource centre space which the school elected to use as flexible learning spaces and a modern administration facility to accommodate the school's needs. The key factors that have been addressed within this development architecturally are as follows:

The Feel of the project is comprised of two main areas, that of administration and learning spaces. The school wanted these spaces to be able to interact with each other and for the spaces to be planned out in an open way. The design was therefore established to enable both small and large group spaces with passive surveillance both through the building and onto the playing areas externally.

The Teaching Zones also included small group learning spaces to enable the philosophy that no two children are the same and that each student requires slightly different learning environments to flourish.

The ’Building Spine’ - The building is broken up into two learning wings, one side for the younger years and one side for the older years. The central multi-purpose area has tiered seating to allow for group learning and this space also opens out to an externally covered decked area which can be utilised for outdoor learning.
