Overport Primary School, Frankston

Overport Primary School was recently the recipient of a new Learning Centre as part of the Building Education Revolution Program which is sited as part of this masterplan project. Aside from this building and the decade-old Multi-Purpose Hall, the existing school buildings were original LTC blocks dating back approximately 50 years. These buildings were well maintained by the school, but due to their age were recommended for demolition to make way for a new school that is innovative, dynamic, supportive of current pedagogical practices and contextual to the BER Learning Centre. The redevelopment of Overport Primary School is strategically important to the area, in that it heralds a
new era in education for this community and provide the building blocks for future public building works.

The proposed masterplan presented was reflective of the School’s Educational Rationale which called for a school environment that is flexible, dynamic and purpose-built to promote opportunities for both independent and cooperative learning. High quality, appropriately designed teaching spaces allow for greater interaction between teachers and students, improving the learning outcomes and enabling the facilitation of life-long learning for all students, improved teaching of thinking and learning skills, higher order thinking skills and inquiry learning through a multi-disciplinary approach.
