Highett Youth Club Recreation Centre, Highett
The new Highett Recreation Centre (HRC) replaces two existing buildings. The Recreation Centre is the activity facility in the Highett Community Hub which has an Early Learning Centre, a Senior Citizens Centre and Neighbouhood House.
The Recreation Centre houses a Gymnastics Hall and Activity rooms these facilities will be used by the Youth Group, schools and the wider community across all age groups. The facility has been designed in consultation with all the user groups including Bayside City Council. The entry to the Hub is inviting and open to encourage people to come for one service but be attracted to everything else that is going on such that they feel encouraged join that too. The hub site is inclusive of all facilities and amenity which are accessible to all, not just for people with a disability, but the whole community. Overall, the outside areas of the site are inviting and encourage and contribute to a strong village feel. It has comfortable, playful, inviting, safe and pedestrian friendly spaces created through creative landscaping solutions.
