Elsie Dorington Reserve Pavilion, Mornington

Elsie Dorrington was the first pavilion in the Mornington Peninsula Shire’s Pavilion strategy to be designed documented and constructed. From the initial schematic in the pavilion strategy tender through to the design, documentation and contract administration of the new pavilion MSM consulted extensively with Mornington Peninsula Council officers, the netball club representatives, users and Councilors to develop a new facility which addresses their needs.

The pavilion was an extensive redevelopment of the existing club rooms which were in a poor state and did not adequately cater for the Mornington Peninsula Netball Association. The design with the use of plywood was to engage with the surrounding nature which tried to counter balance the huge amounts of concrete on the netball courts below.

Colour was also introduced in a clever and playful way. The big red extruded box is the home of the timekeeper and a clear point for netballers to see and gather around when they are to deliver their scores to the officials. The changerooms are equally color coordinated with players going to either the green or blue room, a nod to how MPSC wanted unisex change rooms for the teams rather than male and female.
